They put in a better showing than they did the first time the monster attacked, but even so, they’re well on their way to defeat when Lucy emerges from her cocoon as an enormous butterfly. Unfortunately, they don’t keep a close watch on Ponsy’s giant caterpillar friend, Lucy, who eats all the leaves and then retreats into a cocoon – leaving them undefended when the monster shows up again. The next day, our heroes arrive at the Hidden Spring, and begin harvesting every single leaf from the tree. He then proceeds to simper around the rest of the episode, acting like a cartoon writer’s caricature of a lovesick lunatic. This does not give rise to Thundercats’ first gay love scene, since Tigra is careful to point out that it’s just brotherly love. En route, Ponsy observes that Liono fancies Pumyra’s pants off, and offers him a love potion Liono takes it and pours it into Pumyra’s drink, but unfortunately Tigra drinks it instead and instantly expresses his love for Liono. Ponsy offers to travel with the Thundercats to the Hidden Spring, where he can distil more elixir from the Karakara Tree, and faced with no alternative, they agree. The Thundercats conclude that they need more elixir and hotfoot it after Ponsy, but unfortunately in their enthusiasm to catch up with him, they run him off the road and destroy all the elixir bottles. The monster proves undefeatable, which is a little bit concerning, until it accidentally smashes the bottle of elixir, which puts it to sleep. This mildly demented bickering is interrupted by a tedious giant monster, which Mumm-Ra has conjured up to come along and cause some random mayhem. When the Thundercats encounter him, he sells Liono a bottle of the elixir, but Pumyra very wisely refuses to drink it. Well, he’s here now, reimagined as a snake-oil salesman hawking something called Ponsy’s Miracle Elixir, so I assume his name is Ponsy. Liono is taking the opportunity to do some awkward flirting with Pumyra, which has an undesirable outcome when he offers her a flower which unexpectedly squirts poison in her face and makes her head swells to about three times its normal size.Īnd now it’s time for a delightful blast from the past: you’ll all remember the minor supporting character from the original series, christened by me “the dog in the top hat” because I never either got or remembered his name. Our heroes are heading back from the mines, with the intention of reuniting with the Thunderkittens and then resuming their search for the stones. In which Liono starts being a little bit creepy.
